Lost – again

Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

So I was getting “yelled” at whenever I went to post on my blog to update the version of WordPress that I was using. I was DREADING this since the last time I did, I lost all my past posts. Finally I gave in and decided to update today. I followed EVERY step of the tutorials making backups of EVERYTHING from here to kingdom come, and yet- ALL posts are gone! Sigh. The database didn’t back up properly and was lost. Apparently there is no undoing this and so we are going to have to start from scratch – again.

On the up side, I had just decided to make this blog my kid crafts and activities blog where I focus more on fun things to do for kids and a little felt and take my personal blog to another domain. That way I’m not broadcasting my personal things all over the internet and I keep this one more fun! So I guess it is good to make a fresh start (Google, please don’t hate me!). I know that I can go and find Cached pages, so I will do that in the hopes of saving some of the posts.

Sorry for the craziness- All part of the fun I guess!

Merry Christmas from the Boams 2011

Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

2011 has been a year full of change, memories and fun for our family. Here are some of the highlights.

Jeffe- This spring Jesse tested to become a professional engineer. He passed his test with flying colors! He is continuing to work for CE&MT/Strata as their lab manager in the West Valley City, Ut office. In the fall, he went bow hunting for the first time and got his first dear with a bow! He continues to love to hunt, shot his guns and fishing.

Awnya- 5 kids sure keep her busy with all their activities, homework, fun, and energy! She still finds time to run her website online, blog, sew, crochet and do all kinds of other crafts! She enjoys learning new thing and even took a few college classes earlier this year.

Superkid- This year was extra special for Superkid. He chose to be baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He started the 2nd grade this fall and is at the top of his class in reading and math. Just a few days ago, he had to get glasses, so now he looks particularly scholarly. He has his daddy’s engineering mind and loves to build and construct (as well as de-construct) all kinds of things. Superkid also started playing the piano in October and has already passed off his 1st book! He has a sweet heart and a keen mind.

Cookie- our sweet little girl is 6 years old! She started 1st grade this year and started going by her given name instead of her nickname. She loves art and drawing or coloring anything she can. She is learning to read and loves trying to read everything around her. She has learned to ride her 2 wheel bike and loves to jump on the trampoline. She is a great help with her siblings and loves to do what she can to help mom around the house.

Tater- At 4, Tater is a bundle of energy! He loves anything “boy”. Cars, trucks, balls, bats, trains, and Buzz lightyear are among his favorites! He is the big kid around the house while the other kids are at school. He loves to play computer and run and play outdoors. He has a sweet spirit and a cute testimony.

Baby E.- what a bundle of 2 year old energy! We are constantly finding her climbing, jumping and running around. She is moving from the time she is awake until she practically falls over asleep each night. She loves our new kitty and carries him around every chance she gets. She is loving her new baby sister and wishes she could hold and love her all the time. She loves to jabber away and we are understanding more of what she says everyday.

Goofer- This sweet baby girl joined our family on August 19th this year. She is such a calm, sweet, easy-going baby who loves all of her big brothers and sisters. She is rolling over already and almost has her 2 first teeth! She last weighed in at close to 13 lbs and has the cutest chubby cheeks and dimples.

Our family would like to share with you our love for each of you. We love you all and hope this letter finds you well. We know that our Savior loves you each as well and that he is the reason for this blessed holiday season. We pray that as you start this new year that you will be blessed and protected as well as find peace in the love that he offers to each of us.

Happy holidays!

Love, the Boams

Hello to my “biggest fan”

Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

I have been told that my sister T, is my biggest fan. She begs for blog updates so that she can read all about us :o ) Well, T, this blog post is for you:

The other night as I was tucking kiddos into bed, I noticed that Baby E. had her pants on inside out and backwards. I thought, “that’s weird. Surely I was really not THAT out of it when I changed her before I put her in bed. Oh well.” And continued on my way to bed. Later that night, I was awakened by Baby E. crying. I went to find out what was going on to discover a soaking wet baby. Apparently she had taken off her diaper before going to sleep and put her pants back on. Then when she wet in the middle of the night, it woke her up. So I changed her, the sheets, and got her back to sleep thankful that I was not as crazy as I initially thought I was.

Long time no blog

Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

My apologies my dear friends. I have to admit that blogging has taken a back seat as of late. But…

We are expecting baby #5 at the end of August!

Because of this delightful development, I have been really sick and barely able to complete even some of the basic tasks around the house…needless to say, I haven’t been on the computer very much. As of today, I am 14 weeks and 3 days pregnant, so hopefully the sun will soon come out and I will feel better and more able to function like a normal human being again. :o )

Until that happens, please be patient with me and enjoy the new baby tracker that I’ve added to the sidebar again.

Slowing Down…

Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

Do you ever find yourself running around crazy-like? Do you feel like you are a chicken with its head cut off? Do you feel that you are barely finishing ANY task, let alone finishing them all or the best of your abilities?

SOLUTION: Slow down to speed up. While this may sound like an oxymoron, it is a tried and true secret of getting everything done.

Try this. Sit back in your chair for a minute. Close your eyes and simply BE. What do you smell, hear, feel? Surrender yourself to the things around you. Let go of all other thoughts and just BE int he moment. (ok, ready….go!)

When you are done, notice how much more focused you are. Did the stress just melt away? Are you ready to tackle the next thing you need to do?

Now your homework- Several more times today, take time to just BE. You don’t need to take a long time with this, just a minute or 2, but the break will allow your mind to relax, focus and you will feel re-energized! I have been truly amazed how much better I feel as well as how much better my relationship are with my kids and husband. It is SO nice! And in the end, I am much more efficient in getting the things done that I need to do.

So, while it may still sound a little silly- Slow Down to Speed Up…and do it today!

The mountain is on fire

Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

So I just heard that there is a big fire about 20 or so miles away from us. We can smell it outside and even feel the heat in the wind. My brother was just driving by and he says that it looks like a volcano and we heard on the news that they are evacuating homes.

Tonight my heart and prayers go out to the people of those homes. I pray that the firefighters will be able to get this fire under control quickly and safely.

Thank you

So today I begin my “August Resolutions”. Strangely, they begin on Aug 28th (not the 1st). We will see if they are more successful than my New Year’s Resolutions ;o)
Today I want to share a Thank You. This special thanks goes to Julie- my server last night at the Olive Garden in Layton, Utah.
Julie- you were kind, helpful, quick and funny. Your service was above and beyond normal expectations. Even at the very end of our evening together when I was stuffed to the gills, you tempted me with desert. Although I didn’t indulge last night, I’m still drooling for them today simply from your description of them. You truly were a delight and I am so glad that our paths crossed for a short time last night. Thank you for helping me have a wonderful evening.

I fell….

Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

While cleaning the shelves of the fruit room in the basement, preparing to move our things in, I fell through the lid of a bucket. I admit that it wasn’t the smartest decision to stand on the lid of this bucket and even remember thinking (moments before the lid gave way) that I should get something else…
Lesson learned. I fell (luckily) straight down into the bucket, wedging my feet inside. Unluckily, I fell on my shins on the rim of the bucket.

I vaguely remember pulling my feet out of the bucket and looking at my legs and thinking “I need to get upstairs NOW”. I hobbled up the stairs and past my mom in the kitchen. I mumbled something like “ice now” to which all her mommy alarms started going off. I managed to get to the couch in the front room knowing that I wouldn’t be moving for a while.

At this point I looked down again to see on both legs blood accumulating below the surface. Both had swollen to 1″ high and were blue. I knew I needed to apply pressure, so I pressed down as hard as I could 1 hand on each shin. Mom was there soon after to survey the situation. She wanted to look so I managed to peel my fingers away from my legs. She paled a little and ran to get ice- lots of ice.

I kept the pressure on until the ice was there. The blood flow was lessened by then so that they weren’t AS swollen, but VERY painful.

They still hurt lots and the nerves even BURN occasionally still (that comes from the nerve damage). The bruising is yellow now and blends nicely with the natural color of my legs unless you look closer.

AND my Daddy has kindly given me a step ladder, so no more repeats. ;o)
