T-shirt Scarf

I’ve been playing a lot on Pinterest lately. It is a great activity to do while I’m nursing. :) One of my most recent finds is a scarf made from old t-shirts. The tutorial I followed was by DoughMama and is a great one.  I have a few small changes that I thought made it a little easier and another that made a scarf for my 6 year old too from the same shirts!  So, here you go!!

I would love to see your finished scarfs!  Comment with a link and I will come and see!

Enjoy!!

Recommendation: Online Social Media Presence

Many of you know that I have an online business and have been working over the years to make it get better rankings in search engines and to help people find it. The person who has made the biggest difference in my online business presences is Karen Clark of MyBusinessPresence.com. Karen has been the most reliable, helpful person ever!
I have been trained by Karen many times both one on one and in a group. I have listened to several telephone classes and even a webinar. All were excellent and highly informative. When I first started my training with Karen, I barely knew how to turn on a computer. She has guided me to have a successful website, 2 blogs, and a following on Twitter and Facebook. I know that without her guidance, I would still be stumbling around without any clear direction.
What impressed me the most is how generous she was with all the information that she shared! Have you ever heard the saying “Give more in value than you ask for in payment”? I felt like I was cheating Karen because of all the value she gave to me! Her wisdom covers any aspect of the internet and of social media.
I have known Karen for about 8 years and have watched her build her own business presence online and then begin teaching others how to do the same. I know that she doesn’t tell you to do anything that she herself would not do or has not tried.
I will also admit that I have tried courses and trainings from other “experts” on social media and have paid more and received SO much less. I will also add that I will never go to another trainer for social media and online presence training because I know that the best value is Karen Clark.

Visit her site My Business Presence.com to sign up for a class or for some of the freebies that she shares.

Helpful Tips

I just found this in my email from like 3 years ago, but some of the tips are just wonderful! Enjoy!
————————————
Helpful hints

Bed Sheets
After drying my sheets, put both sheets and one pillowcase in the other pillow case. Fold neatly in a square. Next time you change sheets, you just take the one pillow case and all the sheets and pillow case are inside. No need to look for matches.

Reheat Pizza
Heat up leftover pizza in a non-stick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.

Easy Deviled Eggs
Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

Expanding Frosting
When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar/calories per serving.

Reheating refrigerated bread
To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

Newspaper Weeds-Away
Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers, put layers around the plants overlapping as you go, cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic, they will not get through wet newspapers.

Broken Glass
Use a dry cotton ball to pick up little broken pieces of glass – the fibers catch ones you can’t see!

No More Mosquitoes
Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

Squirrel Away!
To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn’t hurt the plant and the squirrels won’t come near it.

Easier thank you’s
When you throw a bridal/baby shower, buy a pack of thank you cards for the guest of honor. During the party, pass out the envelopes and have everyone put their address on one. When the bride/new mother sends the thank you’s, they’re all addressed!

If you purchase a new bike for your child, place their picture inside the handle bar before placing the grips on. If the bike is stolen and later recovered, remove the grip and there is your proof who owns the bike.

Flexible vacuum
To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

Reducing Static Cling
Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and — voila — static is gone.

Measuring Cups Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill it with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don’t dry the cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

Foggy Windshield?
Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

Reopening envelope
If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Voila! It unseals easily.

Conditioner
Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It’s a lot cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It’s also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn’t like when you tried it in your hair…

Good-bye Fruit Flies
To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass fill it 1/2″ with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dishwashing liquid, mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

Get Rid of Ants
Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it “home,” & can’t digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, esp. if it rains, but it works & you don’t have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

Take baby powder to the beach
Keep a small bottle of baby powder in your beach bag. When you’re ready to leave the beach sprinkle yourself and kids with the powder and the sand will slide right off your skin.

Keeping your Family Safe from the Internet

I have been working on this ebook for over a year now, trying to get it perfect. It occurred to me, that it may never be perfect, but the experiences that we have gone through as a family have helped us to become stronger and a little more cleaver as we try to protect other families from facing the same challenges that we have had.

So, disclaimer- While this book may not be perfect, while it may not be the same parenting style that you use, there are things in there that I believe will help anyone. (click on the picture to get the book, or click on Keeping your Family Safe from the Internet eBook)

Please share with your friends and family! Let’s protect the people we love from the dangers that can be found online, while still letting them have access to technology!

*Just a side note- I am completely willing to share what I have learned in a group setting. Email me or give me a call to set something up.

Fun fabric flowers!

Recently, I’ve been into making some fabric dresses and then with the scraps of fabric, I’ve taken up making fabric flowers. SO fun! Here are some of my favorite flowers and how to make them.

Patchwork flowers by Molly Chicken

Pretty Rounded Petal Flower by Pink Paper Peppermints

Two layered flower by Sew Ritzy Titzy

Neat fabric flower brooch by Gone to Earth

And a pretty Rosette by Little Birdie Secrets

I have been making several of these. Some are more time consuming than others, but all are fabulous! Enjoy!

DSWA Celebration

This last weekend I attended the DSWA Celebration in Dallas Texas. It was amazing. The energy in the air was so powerful and I got to meet some amazing women. We were well taught by all the speakers and trainers there and I learned so much for both my personal and professional life. Here are a few I would like to share:

Speak from your heart to make a difference.

Grant yourself permission to be alive and enjoy the moment.

“Attitude development comes before skill development” -Ron Rice

Make sure your decisions are based on your principles not your emotions of the day/minute.

Life is not about the things you have but the people you have in it.

If you look so long at the closed door you won’t see the open window.

“Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. Encouragement is the fuel.” -Zig Ziglar

“God always sends you gifts wrapped in problems.” -Yvette Ulloa

Managing your emotions is a process not a product.

Its not over till its over, its not done until its done. As long as we are on this planet have opportunities to learn and grow and become, all we have within us.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.

A New Beginning

It all started about 2 1/2 years ago. Jefe’s job was getting worse and worse and I was struggling to work full time (nights) at McDonalds. I had recently found out I was pregnant and was trying desperately to work through exhaustion, sickness and just plain being overwhelmed in order to pay for our house, car, food, etc. Then some complications happened with my pregnancy that made it an impossibility to work. In fact, I was put on “sit-rest” for 6-8 weeks.

From there, we got a new job and moved back to Utah to live with family while we tried to short sale our Arizona house. Within 2 weeks we had an offer but it took an aggravating 6 months for the house to close. We tried everything we could to stay current on our home loans until the day the bank told us that the “Would not approve the sale of our home unless we were 90 days past due on our loan”. Another crushing blow. Our credit (and it felt like our integrity) was going down the drain and there was nothing we could do about it. Our realtor was a leach and a liar. Pretending to help us out, but actually not telling us when the bank needed paperwork or another copy of something. He falsified reports, lied to his boss, and even told the bank at one point that we were no longer interested in selling the house at all!! Our complaints to his boss (and his boss’s boss) went unheard and we finally had to take matters into our own hands and direct the bank to not contact him anymore but to let us personally know if there was anything they needed (which is basically unheard of in a short sale process).
Finally the 1st mortgage was approved but the 2nd mortgage would only approve if we would PAY THEM $2000 just to close it. It felt like we were bribing them (which we kinda were) just to close the sale. But the buyers were getting inpatient and they said it was the only way. We maxed out our credit cards and pulled everything together we could manage to give them the money to close. It felt so unethical, and yet, in their words “This is the only way”.

Things started to look up from there a bit. We had a new baby, a tiny apartment (with 6 of us crammed inside) but we were on our own again.

Still, a piece of myself felt lost and sad. The kids and my husband were great! They gave me extra kisses and hugs and even space when I just needed space. After a year, we moved into a house that my uncle was kind enough to rent to us. Things seemed to be looking up, but still that piece of me…I could feel at some point that I needed to be doing more to grow myself. I needed to read my scriptures, find uplifting material to pour my heart into and come away feeling strengthened, but no matter how hard I wanted to try, something inside of myself resisted.

My uncle gave me a book as a gift. Others had told me what a wonderful, uplifting book it was and how much I would grow from listening to it (it is a book in CD). After 2 months of having the book and not listening to 1 minute, guilt won out and I put in a CD one day. Nothing registered. I listened to almost 2 full CD’s with no change. Was I really THAT far from where I wanted to be?

I decided to ease my way into reading again by borrowing a set of books from my mother in law. The books (The Hunger Games) were captivating and exciting. They weren’t really uplifting, but they got me reading again. I finished all three in a week and a half.

Another friend had been talking about a book by Glenn Beck and Keith Ablow called “The 7 Wonders that will Change Your Life.” On a whim I bought it for myself for my birthday, but it sat on the counter for 2 months before I would even pick it up. During this 2 month time, I slowly began listening to the CD’s of the book called Promptings. Bit by bit a sentence or 2 would register with me. I felt a spark coming back to life. By the end of the “book” I had found several things I could work on in my life and was excited to being to improve myself again!

Another wonderful change has been in my quality as a mother. I have been listening to the promptings that I have received and have changed myself and have found better ways to motivate and inspire my kids. I am opening my heart to more prompting around me and trying to become a better person and a better friend. I am looking more for what Glenn and Keith describe as the “bread crumbs”.

I wouldn’t change the experiences that I have had for anything because I believe that I am a better person because of it. I have learned so much about myself and have found new ways to grow and become much better.

As the title suggests, in a way, each day is a new beginning. A change to make yourself better, a change to DO better, and a chance to help lift those around you to be better as well.

I challenge each my readers to take a good look inside and decide if you have a passion for each moment you are living. If so, your are so very blessed, congratulations! If not, begin today to take 1 small step to awaken your passion within. If you are like I was a few months ago, you may not know where to start, but may I suggest one of the books I have told you about. They are amazing and could help awaken a passion for living each moment within you, as it has for me.

Exciting news!

Hey everyone! I am so excited to announce that I’m officially an AUTHOR! Woot! I have been working on my book for about 6 months now and I am self-publishing it online in both e-book and printed formats. The title is “Your First 30 Days in Direct Sales workbook- keys to your success”. Basically it is a workbook to walk you through the first 30 days of being a direct seller.

For some companies, you sign up and then have to wait for 2 weeks (or longer) to get your starter kit in the mail. I have met very few companies where you are set to go the second you sign up. I feel that the time between when you sign the dotted line and when you get you kit (and even a little later than that) is a PRIME opportunity that many companies are missing out on!!!

The excitement that people have right then is SO contagious and wonderful that they SHOULD get going! That is what my book does. It gives you small tasks to do each day that will seize those precious moments just after you sign up and turn them into CASH. And we all like cash, right???

Along with my book, I’ve also launched a new website, http://www.30daylady.com. It is a site dedicated to my writing, speaking and training. While I currently only have 1 book, I have several others in the works already! Visit the 30 day lady website for additional titles and if you are interested in purchasing a copy of my book.

Ok, commercial over :o ). I am just so excited about this wonderful blessing that has come into reality. To be an author was one of the “101 things I wanted to do before I die” list I have and now I am able to check it off.

Just goes to show you that it pays to dream and dream BIG!

Missing you

Well, I have taken a big step this weekend and have actually LEFT my kids. I have gone to the DSWA Leadership Retreat in San Diego for 3 days (2 nights). The kids are in good hands (my moms) and my wonderful sisters are there to snuggle and cuddle them and generally help out with all the munchkins.

I reflect back to the “if mom ain’t happy, nobody’s happy” and know that I will come away from this weekend and happier, smarter, more relaxed mom but something about leaving my baby for the 1st time makes me a little sad.

So here I go, off to my retreat to learn and grow and think about my babies. When I go home, I will give them lots of hugs and kisses and we will all be the better for it.
