I want my OWN daddy!

Filed Under Kids, love, parenting | 6 Comments

First I want to say THANKS!  The comments on my recent posts have been GREAT and I’ve really enjoyed all the visitors!  Keep it coming!  The contest is still going until Monday (The 1st…April Fools Day….maybe not the best time to announce a winner LOL ;o))

Ok, on to the story of the day.  Cookie comes to me while I was cooking dinner and started crying.  I was concerned because this is not like her at all.  I knelt down and kissed her and asked her what was wrong and she simply said, “I want me own daddy!” and began to wail again.  I half laughed but felt really badly that she was missing her daddy so much.  I gave her a big hug and said that dad would be home from work soon and she started to cry again.  Over the next few minutes she explained to me as only a 3 year old can that she wanted a daddy for her very own so that she wouldn’t have to share him, but he had to be just like the daddy she had now.

Needless to say, Jeffe spent a few extra minutes with her all alone when he got home from work :o).

My Bro-

Filed Under Kids, laughter, love | 5 Comments

Today I wanted to do something a little different…a tribute to my bro!  I guess as the big sister I have a point of view that no one else will quite have!

1.  Cookie Monster, who to this day reminds me of the day I terrified my bro when he was like 4.  He’s not scared of him anymore….at least I don’t think he is ;o)

2. Hillbilly teeth- For 2 years he lived in a place that had quite a few people who were real life hillbillies.  (I won’t say where for fear that someone who visits will actually be FROM there ;o))

3.  He is the Best Guy!- While we were growing up we pounded into his head (sometimes literally) how girls needed to be treated.  When I would come home off of a bad date I would seek him out and say “You will never do this to ANY girl!!!” and he actually listened!–to this day I think he still follows some of the advise I gave him long ago…

4. I made him memorize the Shania Twain song “Any Man of Mine” so that he would know what a woman expected- LOL!

5. I can still take him in a wrestling match- He is stronger, but I am definitely meaner! (Yes bro, I CAN still take you…don’t make me come and prove it!) LOL

6. Some of his all time favorite cartoons are the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Gummy Bears.  I’m pretty sure he still knows the theme song to the TMNT’s too!  When we were younger, he would drink Kool-aid and then bounce around the house.  It was his gummy berry juice!

7.  He makes a great woman! (LOL) He has been in several plays and productions (and I think even sang in several performances) being a woman.  I remember one where he (during the performance) took out one of his bosoms which was an apple…and started eating it….it was hilarious!

8.  I always know he loves me when he makes me smell his arm pits…Gross I know, but I guess its that weird brother/sister love thing!

9.  For about a year he was practicing with some nun-chucks and got pretty good with them.  I would watch and totally wait for when he would mess up and end up racking himself ;o)–warm fuzzies!

10.  A few of his nicknames are Houdini and “small clump of trees” … I’m sure there are others that weren’t so nice too ;o)

11.  “See food” is still one of his favorite things to say at the dinner table

I LOVE you BRO!  — and to all you moms out there…just know that no matter how bad your kids fight today, keep having them make up because eventually they will be grown ups and will kinda, sorta like each other too….

And bro- I sent some good ol’ Cooties your way!

shapes and colors

Filed Under Kids, felt/business, love, parenting | 2 Comments

I have discovered the best game in the whole world!  We call it the shape game (for lack of a better, more creative name).

Setting it up is very simple.  You cut shapes out of different colors of paper and stick them all over the house.

Then the fun part happens.  You stand somewhere (or sit) and call out the shapes and colors.  For instance, I will be cooking dinner and just stand there and say “black square” and the kids all run to find the black square.   Then after a few seconds you call out another…”blue star”. They then run looking for that one!

hint- for older kids have multiple shapes with different colors.  That way they are learning the colors.  For littler kids, just have the different shapes.

I have been playing this for weeks now and they still love it!  The part I love is being able to cook without the kids begging for a taste or for food every second…plus they are learning!

Variation- We drew hop scotch patterns on the driveway and then they would have to hop in the number I called.  Worked really well…you can do this one outside or also put up numbers in your house.

Word to the wise- if you are having company come over, be sure to take down your wonderful shapes and colors or you will be asked many questions…or they will just thing you are strange ;o)
