Monsters- scared away
Filed Under Kids, laughter, parenting | Leave a Comment
I was reminded the other night by one of my kids of one of my fondest memories as a kid.
We were terrified that night. Monsters were coming out to get us. I’m sure it was simply because we were SO tired, but nevertheless, we were frightened. After coming down the stairs a hundred times, my parents were frustrated and a little desperate. My dad (LOVE him to death) decided to scare the monsters away. He came to the stairs and YELLED as loud as he could. It actually frightened me MORE than the monsters. I’d never heard dad that loud before. I started to cry (and laugh) because deep inside I knew that if I was scared, than the monsters were too. Dad told the monsters to “GET out or they would have to deal with HIM”. After a minute of hollering, he hugged and kissed us and sent us back to bed. We scampered up the stairs and fell right to sleep, knowing that all monsters were gone for good!
This moment of silliness has stayed with me since that day. I’m so grateful for a daddy who loved me enough to scare the monsters away. From that moment on, I knew that monsters would stay away as long as Dad was around AND that the boys better watch out too ;o)

“I’m Luke Skywalker”
“S-Water can you…”
“NO! SKY-WALKER. Or you can call me Batman, or Superman, or…”
;o) I’m confused. Suddenly they are all the same person? ;o)

Monsters

Apparently monsters have taken up permanent residence here at our house. The kids (especially Tater) is obsessed with them. I’ve finally started telling him that Daddy eats monsters. It makes him feel better except in the middle of the night. After about 3 weeks of struggling with these darn monsters, we finally went and bought nightlights.
Problem solved. I wish we would have made that purchase a long time ago!! We have had 3 nights of uninterrupted sleep! YEAH!!
Now if I could just figure out a solution to leg cramps and and nightmares I might actually get some sleep! In the meantime, I’ve started taking some prenatals. No, not cuz I’m prego, just because i’m sure I need some GOOD vitamins…surprisingly enough, I have more energy and I’ve been much more motivated to accomplish things and I feel happier! I guess they must be doing something!

I spy

We like to play “I Spy” while we are driving around in the car lately. It keeps the kids from fighting and they are learning their colors really well! Last night we were playing for about 10 minutes and as we got close to home someone announced their “I Spy” and Tater yells out “Reindeer! MY turn!!”

the new pet

At preschool, Cookie earned a treasure from the treasure box for writing her name at home and taking it to school. She was so excited and came home with a little red capsule that looked like a pill. (worried me for a minute actually!)
After dinner we placed it into a clear cup of water and waited. A little while later a horse shape came out of the capsule and I had Cookie rinse the rest of the jel cap off of the red horse. I then suggested she take it out and go play with it.
Imagine my surprise when she started crying! She says “I want to leave it in there so it can grow big!” I explained that it wasn’t going to get any bigger to which she really started to sob and says, “But MOM! I want a friend to ride and play with. That is too little! Put it in the water some more!” Poor thing! She has left it in the water and hopefully forgotten about it for a little while, but how am I going to explain!!

The Naughty Corner
Filed Under Kids, laughter | Leave a Comment
Tater was sitting at the top of the stairs BEGGING to go in the naught corner a few nights ago. It was honestly really pathetic! He hadn’t been feeling well all day, but knows that if he is in the naughty corner, then he’s not in bed, so he was begging for the naughty corner.
Jefe thought it was really funny and just laughed at him. After a few minutes we brought him downstairs and held and rocked him for a few minutes. Poor kid!
He tried it again tonight. Since he was just trying to put off bedtime and has been feeling fine, we gave him a love and a kiss and sent him off to bed. ;o)

Where are the shoes?
Filed Under Kids, laughter | Leave a Comment
At my brothers wedding a few weeks ago, things were pretty crazy. Saturday was a day filled with go, go, go! We woke up in the morning to get everyone ready while mom and dad went early to the wedding. 11 people to get ready! Not just that, but we were not returning to the hotel the entire day, so we needed the wedding clothes, everything for the luncheon and then our clothes for the reception that night!
We packed everything into bags and loaded into the van. After the wedding and the luncheon we are all changing into our reception clothes to head over to where that was taking place and I cannot find my shoes anywhere. I was sure that I put them in the bag! I ended up wearing the brown shoes that didn’t match, but at least I had shoes!
The next day as we are going to leave, we opened up the safe that the hotel had in the room and there were my shoes! Apparently SuperKid thought that my shoes were worth more than the $7 I paid for them at Walmart! ;o) They were very safe and even still unused.

Thumb wrestle
Filed Under Kids, laughter, love | Leave a Comment
Today at a family reunion, Forrest and his new wife, Melissa were eating with the rest of us. My youngest brother LG who is 7 was sitting next to Melissa. He was saying that he wanted to marry Melissa when he grew up and how he LOVED her. Forrest kept saying things like done deal, too late, and I already won her.
Finally in frustration, LG says “Give me your hand. We will thumb wrestle to see who gets to keep Melissa” (giggle!)
Forrest, being a good sport, started to thumb wrestle and won with a “sneak attack” (used his other hand). LG says “Darn. I’ll get you next time”
So cute~!
