The man at the grocery store - Thank you

Filed Under Kids, driving, food, shopping, thank you | Leave a Comment

This thank you goes out to the man at the grocery store. I had been shopping with the 4 munchkins. It was hot and we were all tired. It had been a crazy trip with all 8 of their little hands trying to “help” as much as they could. After checking out and managing to locate the van in the parking lot we were ready to get loaded in. And then approaches a stranger. My “mom-radar” went up and I was instantly protective. He asked if he could help load the groceries in the van for me. I said a quick “we’re find thanks” to which he asked if I was sure. “yep we’re good” I say again. He kindly asks “Can I at least load your milk for you?” To which I finally gave in. I opened the back of the van and continued to load the kids. This kind man didn’t take no for an answer and so kindly loaded my groceries in the back of the van and then took the cart back to the store. He shared with me that he has 3 grand-kids under the age of 3 from one of his sons, so whenever he sees a mom getting loaded in the car, he likes to help out because he knows how much his daughter in law appreciates it.

So, thank you, kind sir. Although I resisted, you insisted and it brightened my day and brought a smile to my face. (not to mention helped my sanity stretch just a little further.)

I spy

Filed Under Kids, driving, laughter | 1 Comment

We like to play “I Spy” while we are driving around in the car lately. It keeps the kids from fighting and they are learning their colors really well! Last night we were playing for about 10 minutes and as we got close to home someone announced their “I Spy” and Tater yells out “Reindeer! MY turn!!”

Where are we again?

Driving around the other day, Tater started chatting with me-
Tater: Mount’ns
Me: yep, Mountains.
Tater: BIG Mount’ns
Me: yes, you are right, big mountains.
Tater: Big Mount’ns in her-tah.
Me: what?
Tater: Big Mount’ns in her-tah.
(he means Utah but is saying her-tah in stead!)
Silly kid!

Zions National Park

On the way back from my brother’s wedding in Las Vegas we stopped by Zions National Park. It was BEAUTIFUL! Wish we could have spent more time there, but it was fun while we were there!

when I grow up

Filed Under Kids, driving, laughter | Leave a Comment

Yesterday while driving in the car, Cookie informed me what she would be when she grows up.
“Mom,” she says, “When I grow up, I’m going to be a tractor.”

I wish her the best of luck. Ü

Moving ;o(

Filed Under Kids, driving | 6 Comments

Well, its official.  Jefe has gotten a job offer up in Utah and we will be moving 3 weeks from yesterday.  It is a good offer and compared to what we have right now, it will be great!  After all of the lay offs and pay cuts here in AZ we barely even have a job, let alone one that is paying the bills…so now I’m maddly packing the house and still trying to keep it clean in case anyone wants to come and look at it.  Makes life interesting.

The kids love playing in the boxes though and think that this is a fun adventure! Me?  I will be sad to leave and think that this may be our most difficult move yet.  The area is ok and so was the house, but the people of Maricopa, AZ are the best!  I will miss everyone so much!

So, if I’m a little bit ellusive for about a month, you will know what is going on…moving…fun, fun!

Car Trip

Filed Under Kids, driving, food | Leave a Comment

Car trips just aren’t what they used to be even 5 years ago. Here we sit…hour 6 on our journey northward, the kids each in their car seats, and a 2 screen DVD player is keeping them mostly occupied. One screen for the back seat and one for the middle section. Tater is occasionally watching between his jabbering and naming the animals that come across the screen. Here I sit, typing on the laptop while Jefe drives.

We just stopped at McDonald’s for some chicken nuggets and french fries, so my kids are devouring their junk food dinner as we continue to drive.

I don’t know how people used to make 12 hour trips in the car before DVD players were portable. I seem to remember my mom telling me to “look out the window” but after it got dark, there isn’t much to see….

Aside from Tater dropping his bottle on the floor about every 20 minutes, life here in the Boam van is pretty peaceful.

Locked in…or out rather

Filed Under Kids, driving | 1 Comment

So as we are getting out of the car at Superkid’s preschool today, keys in the ignition, van running, 2 other kids strapped in, Superkid locks the doors and shuts the only door remaining open.  Luckily it was a cool 55 degrees outside this morning.   So, not wanting to come up with a solution right away, I finished walking Superkid to the door and said goodbye.  He promptly announces to his teacher’s husband (who just happened to be home today) that we were locked out.

Lucky for me, he is a DPS officer (policeman) with locksmith training.  ;o)  It took him about 5 minutes to get my van unlocked and me on my way…but the whole time, the other 2 kids were yelling at me from inside the van becuase they wanted to leave!  ;o)  Thanks Mr. B!  We sure appreciated you this morning!
