The man at the grocery store - Thank you

Filed Under Kids, driving, food, shopping, thank you | Leave a Comment

This thank you goes out to the man at the grocery store. I had been shopping with the 4 munchkins. It was hot and we were all tired. It had been a crazy trip with all 8 of their little hands trying to “help” as much as they could. After checking out and managing to locate the van in the parking lot we were ready to get loaded in. And then approaches a stranger. My “mom-radar” went up and I was instantly protective. He asked if he could help load the groceries in the van for me. I said a quick “we’re find thanks” to which he asked if I was sure. “yep we’re good” I say again. He kindly asks “Can I at least load your milk for you?” To which I finally gave in. I opened the back of the van and continued to load the kids. This kind man didn’t take no for an answer and so kindly loaded my groceries in the back of the van and then took the cart back to the store. He shared with me that he has 3 grand-kids under the age of 3 from one of his sons, so whenever he sees a mom getting loaded in the car, he likes to help out because he knows how much his daughter in law appreciates it.

So, thank you, kind sir. Although I resisted, you insisted and it brightened my day and brought a smile to my face. (not to mention helped my sanity stretch just a little further.)

So today I begin my “August Resolutions”. Strangely, they begin on Aug 28th (not the 1st). We will see if they are more successful than my New Year’s Resolutions ;o)
Today I want to share a Thank You. This special thanks goes to Julie- my server last night at the Olive Garden in Layton, Utah.
Julie- you were kind, helpful, quick and funny. Your service was above and beyond normal expectations. Even at the very end of our evening together when I was stuffed to the gills, you tempted me with desert. Although I didn’t indulge last night, I’m still drooling for them today simply from your description of them. You truly were a delight and I am so glad that our paths crossed for a short time last night. Thank you for helping me have a wonderful evening.

Baby got the chicken pox

Filed Under Kids | Leave a Comment

For those of you who are my friends on Facebook, you already have heard, but Baby E came down with the chicken pox on July 22nd. Poor thing. She got them pretty bad on her legs and feet. Hands and arms. She got only a few on her tummy and back thought. We are glad that she has had them officially so no shots! YEAH~

Monsters- scared away

Filed Under Kids, laughter, parenting | Leave a Comment

I was reminded the other night by one of my kids of one of my fondest memories as a kid.

We were terrified that night.  Monsters were coming out to get us.  I’m sure it was simply because we were SO tired, but nevertheless, we were frightened.  After coming down the stairs a hundred times, my parents were frustrated and a little desperate.  My dad (LOVE him to death) decided to scare the monsters away.  He came to the stairs and YELLED as loud as he could.  It actually frightened me MORE than the monsters.  I’d never heard dad that loud before.  I started to cry (and laugh) because deep inside I knew that if I was scared, than the monsters were too.   Dad told the monsters to “GET out or they would have to deal with HIM”.  After a minute of hollering, he hugged and kissed us and sent us back to bed.  We scampered up the stairs and fell right to sleep, knowing that all monsters were gone for good!

This moment of silliness has stayed with me since that day.  I’m so grateful for a daddy who loved me enough to scare the monsters away.  From that moment on, I knew that monsters would stay away as long as Dad was around AND that the boys better watch out too ;o)

I fell….

While cleaning the shelves of the fruit room in the basement, preparing to move our things in, I fell through the lid of a bucket. I admit that it wasn’t the smartest decision to stand on the lid of this bucket and even remember thinking (moments before the lid gave way) that I should get something else…
Lesson learned. I fell (luckily) straight down into the bucket, wedging my feet inside. Unluckily, I fell on my shins on the rim of the bucket.

I vaguely remember pulling my feet out of the bucket and looking at my legs and thinking “I need to get upstairs NOW”. I hobbled up the stairs and past my mom in the kitchen. I mumbled something like “ice now” to which all her mommy alarms started going off. I managed to get to the couch in the front room knowing that I wouldn’t be moving for a while.

At this point I looked down again to see on both legs blood accumulating below the surface. Both had swollen to 1″ high and were blue. I knew I needed to apply pressure, so I pressed down as hard as I could 1 hand on each shin. Mom was there soon after to survey the situation. She wanted to look so I managed to peel my fingers away from my legs. She paled a little and ran to get ice- lots of ice.

I kept the pressure on until the ice was there. The blood flow was lessened by then so that they weren’t AS swollen, but VERY painful.

They still hurt lots and the nerves even BURN occasionally still (that comes from the nerve damage). The bruising is yellow now and blends nicely with the natural color of my legs unless you look closer.

AND my Daddy has kindly given me a step ladder, so no more repeats. ;o)

Moving

Hello everyone.
Sorry again for my absence. Someday I will be a super blogger, posting every day and having interesting things to say, but for now, I struggle sometimes.
We moved again recently. My wonderful uncle is now renting us his HOUSE instead of the tiny place we were renting before. It is a welcome change. Life here is embracing us and we can tell that this is the place we are supposed to be.
A BIG thank you goes out to all our new neighbors who have peeked over fences, sent over meals, baked brownies, picked us up for activities and even something as simple as sitting next to us. You have made us feel welcomed and loved.

Pictures and stories to come later….

Lost Password

Super kid calls up Jefe at work while I was in the shower yesterday. He told him that I had “fotgotten the password to the computer” and that Jefe needed to “tell it to him, so that mommy could get on the computer”. Jefe was smart and asked where mommy was. Super kid knew he was caught and quickly hung up the phone. Pretty sneaky though!
